The Virginia law firm of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore, LLP is pleased to announce that Thomas J. Bondurant, Jr. has joined the firm and will help lead its White Collar Criminal Defense Practice. Bondurant rose to the position of Chief of the Criminal Division of the Western District of Virginia U.S. Attorney's Office in 2001 and is the region's longest serving federal prosecutor. He is also the former Senior Litigation Counsel and Lead Prosecutor for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.

"Tom is one of the most respected federal prosecutors in the nation," says G. Michael Pace, Jr., Managing Partner at Gentry Locke. "We are delighted he has chosen to continue his professional career with Gentry Locke. His experience and recognized skill as a trial attorney will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our capability to assist clients in complying with increased government regulation."

The need for companies to become more vigilant and proactive in compliance areas and to investigate and self-report improprieties to minimize legal exposure is a corporate strategy of defense that is becoming more prevalent. As the reach of federal government regulation continues to expand to the financial services sector, the health care industry, food safety and manufacturing sectors, and in the workplace itself, corporations and executives alike will increasingly need time-sensitive advice and experienced legal counsel.

Bondurant's career began in 1979 as a Law Clerk for the U.S. District Judge Glen Williams, in Abingdon, Va. Since then, he has personally tried more than 200 jury trials. He has directed investigations involving the full range of complex criminal offenses, from charges against organized crime to claims of corporate fraud and abuse and public corruption.

In 2008 Bondurant was admitted as a Fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in the country. He is an honors graduate of Emory & Henry College and was Editor in Chief of the Law Review at University of Richmond Law School. Bondurant holds an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating, the highest ranking available, from the Martindale-Hubbell® Legal Network.
