Well over 400 people turned out to sample 18 soups at the Taubman Art Museum on Sunday, January 23, 2011.
Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore was the primary sponsor of Souper Bowl II, which was the brainchild of Wheeler Broadcasting, the parent company of Q99 FM, Star Country, and WFIR AM 960. Gentry Locke's sponsorship funds were paid directly to The Rescue Mission and Roanoke Area Ministries' RAM House.
All 400 tickets were sold out early for Souper Bowl II, as was the case for the inaugural event in 2010, although it was cancelled due to snow. Every ticket holder had the opportunity to take home a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl made by Blue Ridge Potter's Guild artists. The sampling of soups from area restaurants and soup kitchens for the needy took place from 1-4pm. The Taubman Museum galleries were open to all, and silent auction items and gift shop items were available for budding or purchase.
The winning soups were from the Hotel Roanoke, 2nd Helpings, and Local Roots Cafe.
